Finally! Boreal Chorus Frogs.

Pseudacris maculata

Every spring since I've been up here (Utah and Salt Lake Counties) I've heard the boreal chorus frogs (Pseudacris maculata) calling. However these anuran ventriloquists are incredibly difficult (read irritating) to locate for a picture unless you happen to be out at just the right evening. I've tried on a few occasions this year to get even a picture of this frog. Finally this last weekend I was able to do so. It isn't my best frog picture, but it will have to do for now. You'd think such a boisterous frog would be easy to find, but their small size, hidden calling sites, and tendency to stop calling as you approach make them a bit more challenging to find. However, we were successful and I can cross this one off my list for this year! As an added bonus, we found a few Columbia spotted frogs (Lithobates luteiventris) that same night!
