January 2018's Creature Feature: Grammostola pulchripes
This common species is a hobby staple for many reasons: it grows to a substantial size (6-7"), is generally docile, simple to keep, and beautiful too!
This species is not the easiest to produce in captivity, but they have large eggsacs so captive bred babies are frequently available.
We keep ours on a few inches of soil with an artificial hide and access to a shallow water dish. They're kept slightly damp but not soaking wet. Juveniles and spiderlings are kept similar to the adults but with slightly higher humidity.
If you don't have one already, or if you want to get a spiderling and watch it slowly grow to a beautiful adult, we have 3/4" spiderlings available now for only $7.00 each until 31 January 2018 or while they last. See our online store for these and other captive bred tarantulas.
